But in March 2017, the Faculty of Medicine was upgraded to a College and the department became part of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences.
The pioneer Head of the Department (HOD)was Professor Abdulaziz Aliyu Umar Dikko(of blessed memory), who served till 2012. /2013 session. From 2012/2013 all through to 2015, Then Dr Ciroma, Fatima Lami took over affairs of the department as acting HOD, followed by acting from 2013 to 2015.
