WELCOME

You are welcome to the Department of Physiotherapy, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, College of Medicine. Please, consider it a privilege to be accepted into the Department and as a new member, I anticipate that you will blend with other students and staff smoothly very soon. Academic environment have unique features and some rules and regulations guide all University community members. Some of these rules and regulations are contained in this handbook and you are expected to be familiar with them. The handbook is a student guide and should be kept close to you as you may need to refer to it occasionally during your stay at the University. Your lecturers and staff are here to support you to make your stay at the University a memorable, meaningful and productive one. I want to emphasize that the university is a place to learn and to develop yourself. Please make good use of all available opportunities. Importantly, you must take your studies seriously, as you can only be the best you can be if you put in the effort.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

The Department of Physiotherapy, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Kaduna State University was established in 2019. National Universities Commission (NUC) resource verification was done in November 2019 and approval from NUC was given in 2020. The first set of students were admitted into the University for the 2019/2020 Academic session. The Regulatory Body, the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists (Registration) Board of Nigeria (MRTB) visited the Department for an Advisory visit in June/July 2020. Dr Rufai Yusuf Ahmad was appointed the first Head of the Department of Physiotherapy, who in turn appointed other departmental officers, such as heads of Units, level coordinators, examination and timetable officers, as well as inaugurating the needed departmental committees for the transformation of the department into an accredited Unit of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences. Following His briefed tenure as the head of the department, the department also witnessed other heads in an acting capacity, including Dr Umaru Mohammad Badaru and Dr (Mrs) Fatima Yahuza. Currently, the department is experiencing its fourth head of department.
